Checked this place out on a whim after searching Yelp for "Clams" in Westport CT. WOW, what a great surprise the BEST fried calamari
EVER. We also had steamer clams (amazing) and twin lobster special (super sweet "chick" lobsters). Absolutely amazing, fresh, super
simple seafood. Our party also, had one of each type of clam "chowdah" Manhattan, New England and Rhode Island, a bit too much thyme,
but excellent. Totally recommended, this is a place for seafood in an old fashion new england style tavern.
Clam House is our favorite Westport restaurant, especially after a day on the beach. We eat here regularly enjoying fresh seafood, pasta, steak or chicken as well as delicious steamers and mussels. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable. There is even outdoor dining in the summer. The staff is always welcoming, friendly and efficient. We often bring friends and relatives to the Mansion for celebrations. Everyone loves it. If you want a great restaurant, delicious meals and a menu to satisfy everyone in your party, Mansion Clam House is the perfect choice.
We came upon this lovely place on an impromptu outing; something just drew us in, but I felt like we were taking refuge in a coastal clam house beloved by the locals. I ordered the bouillabaise - was a tremendous bowl with all manner of seafood in it - in a tomato soup - everything tasted fresh. The rolls arrived at the table warm and fresh baked. If you are in Westport, please give this little place a try. I also had the Rhode Island clam chowder for the first time - a clear brothed version of the New England and Manhattan. Tasted like it had Herbes d'Provence in it - very flavorful.
My friends and I had a yummy lunch here recently. They chose oysters for an appetizer and I had fried calamari. They raved about the oysters which were simply perfect in every way - fresh, cold and served attractively. My calamari was very good too. We had salads for our main course topped with large pieces of delicious lobster meat. The desserts were very substantial - my friends had cheese cake and key lime pie. I controlled myself and did not partake. The Mansion Clam House has been in Westport for a long time and it's a favorite among local diners. The environment is nautical as it is situated on the Saugatuck River. The staff is very friendly and capable and overall we were very happy with the experience and plan to return for another luncheon
soon. It gets very busy during the summertime so reservations are a must. -Rosa P
